Well! Another Southern Ontario Open has come and gone, and just like last year, I was barely able to attend… but thankfully the rest of the Combo Smite crew were able to be there for the majority of the event and REPRESENT!
… if by that I mean lose lots of games. But they had a great time, and truth be told, so did I! Hopefully next year I can actually spend more than a frantic 5-hours at the tournament!
To everyone else on Earth… happy Monday, I guess? Unless you’re not reading this or listening to this on a Monday, in which case… yeah, moving on.
The Retribution CID released, and we sit down and talk about it! Takes us a bit longer than usual, but it is interesting stuff, give it a listen while eating turkey… or whatever you’re eating, I suppose!
Also, a heads up: Marc is away in a cottage in the middle of nowhere for the next week or so to try and get all his writing done for the year (November and December are extremely, extremely busy months), so can’t say for sure there will be a podcast next week, but we will try!
This week, Combo Smite is talking Ghost Fleet… specifically, Ghost-Fleet-Busting… and Nick is gonna spend some time discussing Retribution-centric tactics.
A lot of this is Nick Theory-crafting, but hopefully you guys will find it useful.
Next week we’re going to talk Errants vs Idrians (I’ve already run some preliminary experiments… and the results may be click bait!), but for now, let us know what you think about his tech!
Okay, this is much less of a time-travel than originally expected… see, we were SUPPOSED to record another podcast this week, but SOMEBODY (cough-Todd-cough) had to go and see some band in Toronto.
“Can’t Tie” or “Glideloop” or “Skidhitch” or something like that. So as a result, we’re using our banked Podcast for this week, and we’ll use this week’s podcast for NEXT week and oh dear I’ve gone cross-eyed…
Marc and I were present for the Second tournament in the Store Wars circuit at Hobby Kingdom which also happened to be the last tournament in the Store Wars circuit for 2015.
I set a goal for myself to qualify for the 16 man invitational this year that I have failed to meet. Unfortunately, life happens and I didn’t make it out for as many events as I’d hoped I would. Marc still has a good chance to make it though. Especially with his impressive 3-1 finish at his event. Continue reading →
As I’ve mentioned before, there will be occasions where I, Nick, or Aaron play battles that don’t make it onto the podcast for one reason or another… but they’ll still show up here! These battles will be labelled “NPR” for “Non-Podcast Report” to make them easy to distinguish.
So in my efforts to get as much practice going into Saturday’s tournament as feasible, I actually managed to get a game in last Friday against a local Pressganger named “Gingerstein”.
Well, actually he’s named “Todd”, but over on ye ol’ Privateer Press Forums, he goes by Gingerstein, a nickname given to him by his old boss at Games Workshop. He had commented on a few of my battle reports with the usual helpful, insightful way that most people on the PP forums comment (a nicer, more friendly group of avatars I have never met online anywhere), and had happened to notice that I play in London. More importantly, he’s running the tournament that I’m hoping to compete in, so getting his input on how the thing would work… plus any chance to tangle with the evil-elves is a good one in my book, since they’re still a problem-faction for my beloved Cygnar. After a long (LONG long) hiatus, we’re finally back! With apologies for the delay (due to power outages, a massive bout of flu which floored 1/3rd of our hosts, and invasions of family!), we’re proud to offer a new battle report!
In a small break from tradition, I threw this podcast up BEFORE I finished writing the battle report itself (gasp of indignation!). But now I’ve gone through and finished the write-up, so if you didn’t see it before, you would never know it wasn’t a complete Battle Report at the time! Ah, temporal mechanics… anyway! Listen, read, enjoy!
This week’s battle report saw my noble forces of Cygnar against the fanatical forces of Nick’s Retribution. Nick is still trying to come to grips with Garryth, and I wanted a nice, fun game that I wouldn’t beat myself up too much if I lost, so I went with one of my favourite warcasters, the beautiful Kara Sloan. I love her, but I knew that she’s not a great match-up against a lot of Retribution… but that awesome rifle of hers can get work done, so I was happy to throw her on the table!
We played 50pts single list this week. The reason I wanted to do 1 list is that I have never played Garryth before and I had brought a Garryth list as my second list for a few weeks in a row and, after I saw my opponents list I always found a reason to go with my other list. This week I decided I wanted to finally give Garryth a try so i locked myself in with him. Continue reading →
