Paintectorate of Menoth – Judicator Base, Part 2

So I’ve finished painting my Judicator, which means now I have to base the beast… I was pretty happy with how my Stormwall base turned out, and I love the opportunity to make detailed, beautiful bases on these huge models. Unfortunately, unlike my Stormwall, I had no idea *what* I was going to put on the base… I’m not a fan of the typical “temple floor mosiac” that is popular, nor do I find the usual desert-theme stuff very interesting… but I wanted something!

After awhile, I came up with the idea of having the Judicator standing in a lush, green field, and torching everything in front of it with the flamethrowers. This, I thought, would at least be visually striking, and hopefully not too complicated (unlike my “Stormwall striding out of a river”, which was a blast and turned out okay but was a PAIN to actually do!).

Step 1, already posted in my “Basically Basing” post from last week, was to cover the front half of the Judicator’s base in “crackle paint” and the back half in sand.

After doing this, it was time to get a bit of paint on there… the base of the “burnt and scorched earth” region is “Bloodstone”, awhile the lush area behind the Judicator is “Umbral Umber”

Paintectorate of Menoth – Basically Basing

Due to having an extra day off today for Canada Day (sort of like Independence Day, but more Canadian), I decided to finish up a few of my models that were basically done, and just needed bases.

First, the finished models:
Finally finished with pFeora! I love this model, both rules and aesthetically… I just wish my paintjob could do it justice!

Paintectorate of Menoth – Warcasters and Solos, Oh My!

Having “finished” my Judicator (the air-quotes required due to the fact that she’s not based, but I hope to get that done tomorrow), I’m now on to smaller, faster things. And of the swarms of models I have yet to paint, I figured my warcasters should take priority… I may not always use a unit of Knight Exemplar, but I will always use a warcaster! As a result, I assembled, primed, and put on the painting table every Menoth warcaster I own that is not yet painted.

Here we can see the whole lot of ’em… starting from the back left: Vindictus, Kreoss2, Thyra, Reznik, and then in the front row, Kreoss1, pFeora, the High Reclaimer, Amon Ad-Raza, eSeverius… and then Nicia and the last Paladin of the Wall sculpt (giving me all 3).

Paintectorate of Menoth – Judicator Part 3

Over the weekend I attempted to finish my Judicator… sadly, she wasn’t quite done come Monday morning, but I will finish her by the time this post goes live on Thursday.

Here she is on Saturday afternoon…

At this point the Menoth White Base was almost finished (it looks better on film than it did in real life!), and I’m almost ready to start the highlights….

Paintectorate of Menoth – Judicator Part 2

So I’ve been plugging away at my Judicator (who I think I’m going to call “Dread of Law”)… basically, so far I’ve basically finished the silver sections on her.

Here we see her with the first coat of “Pig Iron”…

The next two pictures are gonna look kinda the same as that one, but I assure you… they are very different…

Paintectorate of Menoth – Judicator Part 1

Last week I mentioned that I had started working on my Judicator… well, here she is!

Not much to look at yet… I’ve since started priming her (I’ve done… half of the first coat, and I suspect it’ll take 2 coats total, or 3 more priming-expeditions, before she’s got a nice, light, even coat). In a bout of insanity, I decided to prime her White… I don’t think I have enough “Menoth White Base” to paint all those surfaces 5 or 6 times if I primed her black, and I’m hoping she’s big enough that I can get my brush wherever I need it!

Paintectorate of Menoth – Bastions Completed

As the title says, I’ve managed to finish my Bastions… here’s a picture of the sealed and finished product!

They’re not perfect… I could’ve spent a bit longer on some of the details, certainly… but I’m happy with how they look, and they were WAY faster and more enjoyable than the Exemplar Errants to paint.

Paintectorate of Menoth – Bastions Ho!

After finally (FINALLY) finishing my Errants (they are now being sealed, which is such a blissful feeling…), I’ve moved on to my Bastions. Solid progress on them already… first coats of gold and silver went down quickly and painlessly.

Here we see the first half with their golds done… the next picture shows all the golds, and all the silvers done.

Paintectorate of Menoth – Errants DONE! And on to the Bastions…

I know! I KNOW! “Only” two and a half months after starting, my Errants are finally finished!

Be still, my beating heart!

That picture is from last night… fully painted, but not fully based. Which, according to Nick, doesn’t count as fully painted… but THANKFULLY this morning I managed to finish basing them!

Paintectorate of Menoth – The Day of the Errants…

So I have a day off today (WOO!), so I’m going to spend the entire freakin’ day painting my Errants from the level they are now (about 60% done) to completed.

I’m just finishing off the whites now, which is to be followed by the maroons (shading, then highlights), and then the metals (again, shading and highlights) and lastly the browns (scabbards, mostly).

I’m thinking I can get them probably done today. Probably. Anyway, pictures from the course of the day will be posted here between coats!
