Podcast 148 – Ontario Team Championships 2017

Ah, the annual OTC. A great time for WarMachine, and a wonderful opportunity to record a metric crap-tonne of battle reports! This episode Nick and I talk about our battles, and we’re planning on getting the rest of the team in a later episode!

For our American listeners, conversion from metric crap-tonnes to Imperial crap-tonnes is approximately 1.47.

An entire tournament worth of batreps! And a chance for Combo Smite (Nick, Kassem, Darrell, and I) to prove that we’re not total and complete scrubs?

Tournament Podcast 001 – Marc's Results using Cygnar

On Saturday, Nick, Aaron, and I went to the Game Chamber in London, Ontario, for our first ever actual Steamroller tournament.

For those of you who have listened to Combo Smite for any time whatsoever, you all know this… because for the last couple weeks, it’s all any of us have talked about! Practicing for 7 minute timed turns, and anxiety about competing with strangers… it was all pretty nerve-wracking. Aaron had talked himself out of even going for a few days (Nick and I gently prodded him back into competing).

I’m going to link the audio for the podcast to my report, since I’m not POSITIVE that Nick and Aaron are going to do their own… but I certainly hope they will!

For my own part, I had practiced my Nemo3 list about 4 times and was pretty satisfied that I could get it to perform pretty well… but had only fielded my Siege list once, and my Sloan list once. I had an hour drive into London (my home is in Kitchener, exactly 101.4km, or about 60 miles, from London), during which all the embarrassing, stupid, tactical blunder-filled mistakes I’ve made in the past year decided it would be a perfect moment to remind me how awful I am at this game.

Podcast 012 – Cygnar vs Retribution, Sloan vs Rahn. Last Practice Before the Tournament!

This week we are still preparing for our FIRST EVER tournament! Well… first ever “real” tournament. I’ve run a couple pseudo-Steamroller tournaments for our group before, but those were always modified rules in one way or the other (soft Deathclock, for example). But no… this will be an actual, real-world Steamroller tournament at an actual, real-world Friendly Local Game Store in London, Ontario.

Nick and I are both equal parts excited and terrified! The format is a 3-list, character unrestricted 35 points; you hand your three lists to your opponent who get to veto one of them, and then you choose your list from the remaining options. More importantly, it’s using 7-minute timed turns (with one 5 minute extension), so we’re both trying to cram in as many practice games as we can to get a better feel for how that will work out.

Podcast 007 – Retribution vs Cygnar, Garryth vs Kara Sloan

After a long (LONG long) hiatus, we’re finally back! With apologies for the delay (due to power outages, a massive bout of flu which floored 1/3rd of our hosts, and invasions of family!), we’re proud to offer a new battle report!
BR007-16-Cygnar Turn 2

In a small  break from tradition, I threw this podcast up BEFORE I finished writing the battle report itself (gasp of indignation!). But now I’ve gone through and finished the write-up, so if you didn’t see it before, you would never know it wasn’t a complete Battle Report at the time! Ah, temporal mechanics… anyway! Listen, read, enjoy!

This week’s battle report saw my noble forces of Cygnar against the fanatical forces of Nick’s Retribution. Nick is still trying to come to grips with Garryth, and I wanted a nice, fun game that I wouldn’t beat myself up too much if I lost, so I went with one of my favourite warcasters, the beautiful Kara Sloan. I love her, but I knew that she’s not a great match-up against a lot of Retribution… but that awesome rifle of hers can get work done, so I was happy to throw her on the table!
