Painting Competition 001 – Combo Smite FTW!

Saturday saw me hosting my first ever Painting Competition… I’ve competed in one before (coming in a respectable 5th, which is about what I deserved in my humble opinion), but I’ve never run one before.

I wanted to host an event that would be welcoming to beginners, and challenging and fun for experienced painters… actually, mostly I just wanted to get a bunch of really good painters into a room where I could pester them for hours for advice! Success!

We’ve recorded a podcast about our (mostly Aaron’s and Nick’s, since I am the scrub out of the three of us when it comes to painting!) suggestions on how to be a better painter… it’s really geared towards “Tabletop Quality” work (as opposed to much more demanding “Display Quality” work), but for those of you who are beginner-to-welterweight painters, it may be entertaining and useful! Some great tips from the guys!

Kingdom of Paintnar – All the Blues, All the Time

So with the painting competition I held on Saturday over, I realized that I’ve finally gotten some of my enthusiasm for painting back. To be honest, I think the whites of Menoth were really getting me down… they’re just so much work to make look acceptable. Since I’m playing Cygnar again, though, I figured I had better finish up some of them instead!

Here we see what I was painting while the competition was going on… specifically, my eHaley, pEiryss, Taryn di Rovissi, and Aiyana and Holt. So… basically all the best-loved women that play for Cygnar (and by “Best Loved”, I mean “Most Loathed by whoever is unlucky enough to be on the other side of the table”).

More pictures after the cut…

The Journey to Painting: A Noob’s Quest pt1

As many of you know, I am not the biggest fan of painting for a number of reasons. Mostly because I’m not the greatest painter, don’t often have time, and rather be doing something else when I do have time. So I came up with the bright idea today- “Hey, if I make an article, I’ll have to follow through with it!”

So without further a due, I’m going to try to paint my Tiberion in preparation for the eXerxis release. I am going to attempt to do a flaming scheme on him as eXerxis has ignite. You will notice his right arm looks funny. That is because I made it bigger with green stuff to hopefully make the flames on that arm more pronounced.

Here’s some pics of him primed. Lets find out what he looks like in a few days!

Paintectorate of Menoth – Customized Avatar Part 2

So work proceeds with my customized Avatar in my attempts to make her less ugly than the default model…

When last we left our heroine, she looked like this:

Notable modifications include lengthening and rotating the right leg, shortening the left, extending both arms, giving her a slightly more dynamic pose, and replacing that gods-awful sword with another (from Fire of Salvation).

As for the paint…

Paintectorate of Menoth – Avatar of Menoth Customization Pt1

So, I’ve decided that I need to finally assemble my Avatar of Menoth… it’s a fantastic warjack, and my only complaint against it has been that the model itself is ugly. Thankfully, my friend Darrell has a beautiful modification on the Avatar, which looks fantastic and encouraged me to try and do my own!

But first…

This is everything I need to have painted by next Saturday… 2 Choir members, 3 Paladins, a Vassal Mechanik, a Devout, 4 Crusaders (1 basically done), 1 Templar, and the Avatar in pieces in the middle. Continue reading

Paintribution of Scyrah – My Little Destors

So I have been hinting for a little bit on the podcast about a super secret project I was working on. It is finally time for the official unveiling!
